Connect the Syncro MCP Server
Table of Contents
This document explains what the Syncro MCP server is and how to connect it to your AI assistant.
Note: As AI assistants evolve, some menus and buttons may appear in different locations or have different names. You can always ask your specific AI assistant to set it up for you.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, you'll need:
- A Syncro account. If you don't have one, start a free trial.
- An AI assistant that supports MCP servers, such as Claude, ChatGPT, etc.
- To meet any AI assistant-specific prerequisites described in the sections below.
Overview
The Syncro MCP Server connects AI agents and other external tools to Syncro so they can read and write PSA and RMM data directly, instead of navigating the Syncro UI or exporting a report to find the same information. It gives you a way to interact with data conversationally: whether that's creating a ticket, generating an estimate, or requesting a report.
This conversational access shortens the distance between a question and an answer. Because MCP-connected tools work through any client that supports the protocol, this access is not tied to a single workstation: whether a workflow runs from a desktop, a mobile device, or a cloud-hosted AI assistant, the connection to Syncro data works the same way, keeping operations moving regardless of where the work happens. For example:
- A Technician asks what's open, overdue, or flagged at a customer before a site visit or as a way to prioritize and organize their workload.
- A Biller asks which closed tickets logged time that hasn't been invoiced yet, catching revenue that would otherwise slip through the cracks.
- A Business Leader compiles a client's tickets, invoices, and open issues ahead of a QBR, or starts their day with a briefing on what changed overnight.
For more examples, see the Syncro MCP Prompt Library.
Notes:
- You can find Syncro listed in the Official MCP Registry under our own name with a verified badge, confirming the connector was actually built by us and not an unofficial third-party version.
- The Syncro MCP server exposes both PSA and RMM data through a single connection, so a client doesn't need separate integrations for ticketing and billing versus device and asset data.
- Use of the MCP/plugin is subject to the Syncro API license agreement.
Supported Authentication Methods
The Syncro MCP server accepts two interchangeable authentication methods. You only need one:
- OAuth sign-in: Sign in with your Syncro account through your browser. This is the method used in most of the AI assistant-specific steps below.
- API key: Authenticate with a static API key, with no browser sign-in required. Send the key in an X-Syncro-API-Key header, along with your subdomain in an X-Syncro-Subdomain header. See Connect with an API Key for details.
Use OAuth sign-in for interactive assistants, such as Claude or ChatGPT. For headless or automated clients, or whenever you'd rather use a static credential than sign in, use the API-key headers instead.
How OAuth Works With the Syncro MCP Server
When you connect over OAuth, you just enter the server URL and approve access in your browser and your AI assistant and Syncro handle the rest. There's nothing to pre-register: no client ID, no client secret, no app setup.
The following is supported:
- Sign-in: OAuth 2.1 Authorization Code flow with PKCE, the standard, secure browser sign-in.
- Automatic setup: your client registers itself (Dynamic Client Registration), so you never copy or paste credentials.
- No client secret: Syncro uses public clients only. If your client asks for a secret, leave it blank/choose the "public" or "PKCE, no secret" option.
- Access: a single scope, mcp-server. Once signed in, the connection can only do what your Syncro user is allowed to do.
- Tokens: short-lived and tied to you; if one expires or is revoked, just reconnect and sign in again.
If your client requires a client secret (a "confidential" OAuth app), it can't connect over OAuth. Use the API-key method instead.
Connect to Claude
Connecting the Syncro MCP server gives Claude direct access to your Syncro data, including tickets, customers, assets, and invoices, so you can work in Syncro through Claude without opening the UI.
Notes:
- Our MCP server is approved as a community connector by Anthropic. The "Community" label reflects that it was built by Syncro (a third party) and how much review Anthropic has done, not how the connector functions. It works identically to a verified connector once connected.
- These steps work in both claude.ai and the Claude Desktop app..
Steps
For End Users
- Navigate to Customize > Connectors in Claude (or Organization settings > Connectors if you are an admin).
- Find Syncro.
- If your organization has already approved Syncro, click Connect. A window opens to authorize you:

Note: If Syncro has not been approved yet, click Request instead. This sends a request to your organization's Claude admins. The button changes to Requested, and once approved you'll be able to connect and authenticate. See “For Claude Admins (Team/Enterprise).” - Click Allow Access.
Results
- Syncro appears in your connector list with the Syncro logo, and Syncro tools are now available in Claude.
- To verify end-to-end, ask Claude to list your Syncro users. If it returns them, you're connected.
For Claude Admins (Team/Enterprise)
Admins with connector management permission can approve requests or enable Syncro proactively. No manual endpoint or client ID entry is required. Syncro is a listed directory connector, so Claude already has that configuration on file.
To Approve a Pending Request
Requests show up in two places:
- Organization settings > Connectors: a "Requested by your team" section sits above the connector list.
- Organization settings > Notifications: the “Requests” tab lists each pending request, with a count badge in the admin sidebar.
Open either one and enable Syncro for the organization.
To Enable It Before Anyone Asks
- Navigate to Organization settings > Connectors.
- Find Syncro in the directory, and enable it directly.
Result
Users can now authenticate individually as described in “For End Users.”
If You Already Added Syncro as a Custom Connector
If you already set up Syncro manually with the endpoint URL and Client ID before it was listed in the directory, that connection will continue to work. However, it now shows under "Custom" in Customize > Connectors rather than as a named Syncro entry, and it won't get automatic updates if Syncro's endpoint changes.
To move to the directory-managed version, remove the custom connector, then add Syncro from the directory instead. You'll be prompted to re-authenticate.
Failed Connections
- If the connector isn't available to add or connect in Claude, your admin may not have enabled it yet.
- If tools don't appear after connecting, reconnect, then restart Claude.
- For more troubleshooting help, see Troubleshoot MCP Connections.
Connect to ChatGPT
Prerequisites
In addition to the general prerequisites, you'll need a ChatGPT account where Developer Mode is available. Availability depends on your plan and OpenAI's current rules, which can change.
Steps
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings.
- In the left panel, select Security and Login, then click the toggle to enable Developer Mode:
- Back on the main ChatGPT screen, select Plugins from the left panel, then on the Plugins page, click the +.
- In the "New Plugin" window, enter the following:
- Name: Syncro
- Connection: Server URL, https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream
-
Authentication: OAuth
Note: No changes need to be made in Advanced OAuth Settings. - Check the box to acknowledge that you understand and want to continue.
- Click Create. Your browser window opens automatically.
- Sign into Syncro and click Allow Access:

Note: You only need to authorize Syncro once. If your authorization expires or you revoke access, ChatGPT will prompt you to sign in again.
Connect to Copilot Studio
Note: For Copilot Studio, you'll connect Syncro to a Studio agent; the Microsoft 365 Copilot chat app does not allow for adding an MCP server via URL.
Prerequisites
In addition to the general prerequisites, you'll need:
- A Microsoft Copilot Studio (or Microsoft 365 Copilot license),
- A Power Platform environment, and
- Permission to create connections. (Your tenant's DLP must allow the connector.)
Steps
- In Copilot Studio, open (or create) a new agent.
- Navigate to Tools, then click +Add a Tool:
- Click Add New MCP:
- In the “Add a Model Context Protocol Server” window, enter:
- Server Name: Syncro
- Server Description: Access Syncro tickets, customer organizations, assets and invoices.
- Server URL: https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream
- For Authentication, select OAuth 2.0.
- For Type, select “Dynamic Discovery:”
- Click Create. A “Syncro custom connector has been created” message displays.
- Click Next.
- From the Connection dropdown menu, select “Create New Connection.”
- Optionally provide a Display Name, and click Create.
- Sign into Syncro and click Allow Access.
- Click Add to finalize the MCP tool creation.
- Click Add to Agent. The Syncro tools now appear in the agent's Tools list.
Tip: See the Microsoft Copilot Studio documentation for the most up-to-date information on creating agents and adding tools.
Connect to Cursor
Prerequisites
In addition to the general prerequisites, you'll need a version of Cursor with MCP support (Cursor has supported MCP since its early releases; OAuth-based remote servers require a more recent build).
Steps
- Open Cursor Settings (Cmd+, on Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows).
- Go to Tools/Features > MCP.
- At the bottom of the Home MCP Servers list, click +New MCP Server.
- In the "Add New MCP Server" window, enter:
- Name: Syncro
- Type: Remote HTTPS (if not already selected)
- Server URL: https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream
- Add the following to the opened JSON file:
"mcpServers": {"Syncro": {"url": "https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream"}} - Click Save.
- Click Add MCP.
- If prompted, allow Cursor to open your browser.
- Sign into Syncro and click Allow Access.
Note: An Admin can add the MCP server for all the users under the Team MCP Servers option at https://cursor.com/dashboard/integrations#integrations.
Connect with an API Key
If your MCP client lets you set custom request headers, you can connect using a Syncro API token instead of the browser sign-in.
Create an API Token
- In Syncro, navigate to Admin > API - API Tokens.
- Click +New Token.
- Select the permissions the connection needs, which includes Tickets, Customers, Assets, Invoices, etc.
Note: Your token's permissions determine what the connection can do. - Click Create.
- Copy the token now. (It's shown only once.)
Configure Your MCP Client
Next, configure your MCP client with the following server URL and headers:
- URL: https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream
- X-Syncro-API-Key: [your_API_token] (that you copied in the step above).
- X-Syncro-Subdomain: [your_subdomain] (just the subdomain, e.g., acme, NOT acme.syncromsp.com).
Most MCP clients use a JSON config like this:{ "mcpServers": { "syncro": { "url": "https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream", "headers": { "X-Syncro-API-Key": "YOUR_API_TOKEN", "X-Syncro-Subdomain": "your-subdomain" } } }}
Verify the Connection
Ask your AI assistant to "list my open Syncro tickets." If it returns data, you're connected.
Let Your AI Assistant Set It Up
Paste this into the AI assistant or tool you want to connect, and it'll walk you through the exact steps for your client:
I want to connect my Syncro account to you using the Syncro MCP Server.• Server URL: https://mcp.services.syncromsp.com/mcp/stream
• Authentication: OAuth — I sign into Syncro in a browser and approve access; no client ID or secret needed. (If you can't use OAuth, I can instead provide a Syncro API key via the X-Syncro-API-Key and X-Syncro-Subdomain request headers.)
• Official setup guide: https://docs.syncrosecure.com/connect-syncro-mcp — treat this as the source of truth; if you can browse the web, read it first.
Please:
1. Ask me which app/tool I'm using (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot Studio, n8n) and my plan/tier.
2. Give me the exact click-by-click steps to add a custom/remote MCP server in that tool — where the setting lives, where to paste the URL, which authentication option to choose (pick OAuth / "Dynamic Client Registration" if offered), and how to complete the Syncro sign-in.
3. Give me one test prompt to confirm it worked (e.g. "list my open Syncro tickets").
4. If something fails, ask what error I saw and help me fix it.
