This quick start guide walks through signing up for Syncro Payments and configuring the End User Portal so your customers can enter credit card or ACH details and pay invoices automatically or in a couple of clicks.

Step 1: Sign Up for Syncro Payments

First, you'll sign up for Syncro Payments so Stripe can verify and approve you.

Watch this short video to learn more:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Integrations > App Center.
  2. Select the Syncro Payments card (under Payments).
  3. Click Sign Up for Payments.
  4. Complete the wizard. Fill in every field, including optional ones. Incomplete submissions come back as tentative approval and you will have to return to finish before processing anything.
  5. Review and click Submit. Your account shows Pending Review while Stripe verifies it. When it turns Active, a Go To Payments Dashboard button appears.

While you're waiting, you can continue with the steps below.

Step 2: Customize the Portal

Next you'll customize the portal so your customers have a seamless brand experience.

Choose Your Branding

  1. Navigate to Admin > Syncro Administration - Account Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Branding section.
  3. Verify that the “Enable New End User Portal UI” toggle is On. This is required to use Syncro Payments, custom domains, and frictionless portal sign-in with OAuth or OIDC SSO.
  4. Click the Logo area to drag and drop your logo (formats: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, max size: 20 MB) and crop it as needed.
  5. Click the Brand Color field and use the color picker or input your exact hex code. This color serves as the primary accent color across the portal.
  6. Confirm both the Show Logo in Portal and Show Business Name in Portal boxes are checked.
  7. Click Save Changes.

Set Up a Custom Domain (Optional)

  1. Click Connect a Domain and enter your own subdomain, such as portal.mydomain.com.
  2. Add the displayed CNAME at your DNS provider. If you use Cloudflare, disable proxied (orange-cloud) mode.
  3. Click Verify Connection. Syncro monitors propagation and moves status to Active automatically. SSL is handled for you.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Customize Portal Templates (Optional)

There are Email Templates for the End User Portal Invitation and Passwords Resets that you can customize.

  1. Navigate to Admin > PDF/Email Templates - Email Templates.
  2. Click Edit to review and edit the template to match your branding and tone.
  3. Click Update Template to save your changes.

See also: Set Up Your Syncro Account, Customize PDF/Email Templates.

Step 3: Confirm OAuth is On

Sign in with Microsoft and Google are already enabled for new Syncro accounts so your customers can sign on with credentials they already have.

  1. Navigate to Admin > Customers - Preferences.
  2. Confirm the box for “Enable Portal Login via OAuth” is checked (it is by default).
  3. Click Save.

End Users can now sign in with their Microsoft or Google account instead of a portal password.

See also: Configure the End User Portal for OAuth Sign In or OIDC SSO.

Step 4: Choose Which Payment Methods to Accept

Next you'll let Syncro know what methods of payment you'll accept using Syncro Payments, such as credit card and/or ACH.

  1. Navigate to Admin > Invoices - Payment Methods.
  2. In the "Card/Credit Card" row, click the edit () icon.
  3. Verify the Payment Type is “Credit Card.”
  4. In the "ACH/ACH Check" row, click the edit () icon.
  5. Verify the Payment Type is “ACH/Check.”
  6. Click Save.

Step 5: Set Up a Biller Who Will See & Pay Invoices

An office manager or accountant who handles payments needs to be a Portal User with the appropriate permissions.

  1. Navigate to Organizations, then select the Organization you're setting up.
  2. Open the biller's End User Details page.
  3. Move the "Enable Portal User" toggle to the On position.
  4. Set the “Require MFA” toggle to the On position.
  5. From the Portal Group dropdown, select Admin Portal Group, which includes invoice viewing and online payment by default.
Note: If you're using a custom Portal User Permission Group instead, make sure the following permissions are selected:
    • Invoices - View All,
    • Invoices - Pay Online with ACH
    • Invoices - Pay Online with Credit Card
    • Stored Payment Options - Add ACH Profile
    • Stored Payment Options - Add Credit Card
  6. In the Emails section, set the “Receive Billing Emails” toggle to the On position so they automatically receive PDFs of all invoices.
  7. Click Save Changes.

See also: Work with Portal Users & Permission Groups.

Step 6: Invite the Biller

  1. Check that your Syncro payments account has been approved.
  2. Send the biller you set up in Step 5 an email about using the End User Portal. Here's a sample you can use. Be sure to replace the section in [ ] with your actual custom domain:

You can manage and pay your invoices directly through our secure online portal: http://[custom_domain]/portal/v2/account_overview

Please take a moment to visit the portal and bookmark the page for future reference. We also recommend adding your preferred payment method (credit card or ACH) today so your account is fully set up and ready for upcoming billing cycles.

What the Biller Does

The office manager or accountant you set up to handle payments opens your email and clicks the URL.

Since they're already signed into Microsoft 365, they land in the End User portal already authenticated.

They add their credit card or ACH information. The information goes directly to Stripe; it's never stored in Syncro.

Whenever you send them an invoice, they pay with their saved information in two clicks. (Minimum charge: $0.50. Partial payments are allowed.)

Next Steps

The End User Portal is an extension of the main Syncro product that provides even more features for your End Users, including:

  • Support Tickets: Create, view, and update support Tickets.
  • Assets: View Assets, and in some cases, remotely access them and run scripts.
  • Documentation: Read the guides and resources you publish.
